Stranded

The gushing sound of the water that keeps thrusting back onto the shore for kisses wakes me up to scorching sunlight. Heat promises not to back down, no matter what, it shall continue charring the pelt of every mortal of Eve. The sound of rustling leaves is ever so rejuvenating! This environment with pleasant chirping of birds is the apt moment to take a good nap but ironically, that is what woke me up. The earth felt grainy and drier than ever and the taste in my mouth didn’t ally with my tongue. I sat up and looked around like a child looks for their mother. My eyes scrolled the scene, scanning every bit. It was too bright at first but the light cleared off my eyes as the scrolling continued.

Blue, Golden, and that’s it. Those were the prominent colors of the beach. “What am I doing here?” I asked myself. One palm backwards to keep my balance and a backstory flashed. A piece of metal engraved my palm into a bloody trickle. I glanced from the corner of my eye to as far as I could see from that edge behind me and all I saw was pieces and other pieces. I was wondering of what?

It was a shipwreck. Yes it was bad. How that navigator lost his direct on the metal beast that thrust itself on that blue glade of freshness. I was looking out of my cabin window. I could see the ocean wither away under the might of that beast and how the sky unleashes its fury on one hard hit. “Thud!” goes the ship and with it I fall. The women and children scream in distress. How gravity was pulling us closer towards its love and we didn’t want to get close. A cruise ship so mighty, that one blow can take the life of millions. We create it and it deceives us? Cruel and cold hearts are not rare. I get on to a life boat when this man comes to save my life in his blue puffed jacket and thick metal head. How I was glad that my parents were not on board! I was on a trip with my friends actually. I got on to a safety boat and the man rows us away from the tragic site. I see many, many people screaming to us to save them but with remorse we row on for if we go back, we shall ne’er return. There was a hole in the boat that let us back to the water. We were swimming. I guess- I guess I was indeed the only one to get across. God bless that man. God bless all those departed souls!
The heat doesn’t back out. I somehow carry my weight up into an attention posture. My hands feel heavy and my eyes can’t decide when to coincide those two images that float in front of me. My legs are shaking and I feel weak like I haven’t eaten in a year. I collapse back onto the sand and snooze off into another slumber.
My eyes open to a starry sky, starrier than ever before. I sit up and look around. I feel better than before but I still feel slightly uneasy. I hear a growl and I momentarily freeze. I hear it again and again like it is getting closer and louder. All my ears can comprehend are those growling noises. It feels like it is coming from the inside of me. Yes, it’s my tummy. I am extremely hungry. I look around for food. The broken ship did send me favors. There was an entire crate of wonderful delicacies that I have never eaten before!!! There were carrots and cabbages and beetroots and seaweed and zucchinis and seaweed. I dive into the treasure chest and stuff as much of the food I can into my gob. It is also seasoned with golden sand.
It is dark and I can’t see much into the distance. It is vague but I can see movement. Far in the distance I can see a shadowy figure moving closer. It looks like a human but I can’t say. It looks like an animal but I can’t say. But it is surely moving and it is moving wild. I am scared but at the same time I am anxious to know what it is. I am not in the state of thinking, let alone running. If that thing can run, then it can also think, and that means it can help me get off this isle. But that is only if it is a human.
As the figure gets closer, my hopes start to dim. It looks like an animal or to be specific a kind of cat. It is on all fours and has a large mane. I turn around and pick up my pace before it gets any closer. It is better I get away rather than wait and let it engulf me into its bloody choir.
I am running and I can’t believe that I am not falling face front. But my legs are shaking and I am trying to hold still and keep my buoyancy. Fear drives one crazy regardless of ones skills. Back at home I am an athlete and here I am merely a coward who is trying to get away with her life. I am exhausted but like the sun I am not backing down. I soon confront tall trees. It is a forest. I am scared but I have to stay alive so I go into it. I run past shrubs and trees and bushes and probably tons of other animals that I may not have noticed but I run. I glance back to see if that figure was following me. I start slowing down when I realize it no longer was. What was that? It was best that I didn’t wait to find out. It gets darker as the forest canopy savors the entire moon light that touches it. I walk into fear. Every step increases my heart rate.
Is that light? It looked like a torch or a fireplace. Curiosity and hope each held one hand of mine and hauled me towards the light. As I got closer, I could hear something musical or rather more rhythmic. Like an entire civilization settled here. I was not wrong actually. It looked like a tribe. I peeped over the sly bushes and to my amazements, I saw civilians. I was so exultant! My joy knew no bounds. I was pleased to see organisms of the same species as me. I move into the raucous and everybody stops their celebrations. All eyes are on me. They all have civil clothes on. Some have leaf patches on their arms. The women look overdressed. Their hair filled with accessories. The staring continues.
A little kid runs over to me and holds my hand. She looks me in the eye. I can feel her tiny fingers intertwining with mine. A man comes towards me. “Where are you from?” and to my utmost surprise, they speak English!
They make me feel home and invite me to supper. They told me that they all got here on wrecks. They came in batches. I was the first survivor who came alone. They asked me how I survived. It felt nice to be among people of your own kind. I soon fell asleep.
Grrrrrr. My eyes patted open half way. I saw a shadowy figure prowling in the sight. The leaky saliva drenches my face into a slobbery mess. I am really tired so I close my half opened eyes. And that was followed by a gory roar that sent a shiver down my spine and I opened my eyes wide ad it pounds onto my body with all fours and……
I wake up. Thank the holy heavens that it was merely a dream. I was up just at daybreak. My tummy growls. I eat my fill at breakfast.
I still wonder what the shadowy figure was. Well its best I never know. The men of the tribe arm themselves with resources and weapons. I ask them where they are headed to. They say that they are going to find a way out of the island. I offered my intelligence but they refused. They said I was too young. The men move on. I take the other part out of civilization and go out to explore. I keep walking until I am faced with a big black rock. Or was it a rock? It was the hull of a ship. I was surprised that the civilians hadn’t bothered to explore this. I go back to civilization and tell them about what I found.
“Child! How did you get back?”
“What do you mean?”
“What did you see? Did you see the big black-“
“Ship?”
“No my dear. The beast.”
“What beast?”
“The beast. The one animal that has kept us watch all night. That devil that savored so many of our family members. The beast guards the ship. How did you get past it?”
“There was no beast.”
Three men run outside the forest towards the clearing. “It has come true!”
“What has come true?” I asked.
“The prophecy. When the moon and sun betroth in the sky, the beast shall find its Achilles’ heel, the beast shall go in drunken slumber and shall set its prisoners free.”
“I- I don’t quite understand”
“Look at the sky my dear! Look at the sun and look at the moon. The sun and moon have come out today, together. They have been to their betrothal. The beast has gone into hibernation due to the might of the sunlight and moonlight uniting! We will have to escape now. We have to leave before twilight falls. This is our chance. Hurry now all civilians. Take all that is dear to you. Let us go back to civilization. The heavens are smiling upon us.”
And with those mighty words, every man, woman and child, grab their belongings and run toward the ship. The ship surprisingly, is in really good condition with slight mending here and there. The entire mass of civilians thrust their efforts onto hauling the-three-quarter-submerged-ship back into complete submersion into the sea. It took us a while but we made it. We all boarded the ship and sailed away.
3 months later, we see land. Everybody jumps and screams with joy! We drop anchor as we pull close. Police forces send us speed boats and take us back to land. We smell like rotten food and dead animals. I was so glad that we got back. I was soon returned to my parents as I learnt that they sent an entire team of search forces to find my location. I was surrounded by news reporters and they asked me a lot of questions. My eyes started watering to the memory of my friends’ deaths. There was a funeral conducted and I was invited. We moaned the loss of many innocent lives. “Amen!” says the whole crowd.
I was just glad that I survived with little or no resources. It took me a while to regain my immunity but I was well soon. I resumed my activities with full energy. All was well.

Fairyland...

**************************************************************************
This is a sonnet that I wrote in school and I wanted to bring in a little Shakespearean touch to it, so I did. And to make it easier, I have a glossary too!
**************************************************************************
Far away from where you live,
Thou live amongst the green,
Thou live among the strong trees,
Thou live among the frees,
Place barriers between the strong and weak,
Shower confidence to the meek,
Paint animals for fairy steps,
Oh my dear! No time to prep,
Knit a style and dress 'em up,
Clean the tables, Potion in a cup,
Keep her smiling never frown,
For then the world'll have to stand down,
Her wrath shall tear it piece by piece,
Then shall no longer supremacy belong to peace.

Glossary
Style- Fairy party dress
Paint animals- Dress animals
Steps- Dances
Thou- 'I' in Shakespeare English
Frees- Poetic plural for free animals
Potion- Fragrant filled and aromatic tea
It(line 13)- Universe
Her(line 13)- Fairy Queen

Myths & Legends

**********************************************************************
This is a poem I wrote on my opinion on myths and a legends! I have used symbolism for which I have also taken the honour of making a glossary!
**********************************************************************
Fairies and magic,
Witches and Tragic,
Wands that help light the dark.
Gods and Goddesses,
Percius and Zeus,
Katniss and Peeta Mellark.

Unicorns and Centaurs,
Minotaurs and Trolls,
Myths and legends,
In documents and scrolls,

Pictures and carvings of those of them,
Who left a mark in history,
Travellers and merchants, rich and poor,
Crave to unlock their mystery.

Legends they are those who succeed,
In missions or pursuits unfathomable,
Those are legends who awe the world,
And never leave their story untold!

They are those men,
Those women,
Whose pictures that they art,
Stories fill the pages of those legends that we dart.

Thoughts and dreams,
Oreo with extra cream,
Imagination has no bounds.
Unicorns in rainbowland,
Pots of gold, treasures,
And treasures in mounds.

Zeus and Hera,
Gods of Greece,
Buried Pharaoh comes back to life,
Rustic myths blow,
Imagination sowed,
Redundant beliefs bark.

Myths are those who tell only,
What another believes,
What another thinks they saw,
That what gives them relief.

Myths are those that may,
Never have existed,
But people without hope believe,
Believe, believe what has been told.

Kings are said to have seen god,
And the proof is nil,
Priests are said to have met god,
And the proof is nil.

Myths and legends are intertwined,
Like, They are woven together like a cloth,
With these we have come a really long way,
Nevertheless I have to say...

Myths are just another ways,
Of wasting your time,
To believe in things,
That was meant to be a mime.

Legends are worth it,
Worth all your time,
For it teaches you about determination,
Doesn't boast about one's cloud 9!

Glossary

Rainbowland - Unicorns' habitat
Mime - A bedtime story
Katniss and Peeta Mellark - Legends from Hunger Games
Dart - Look to

Happy Birthday Wazzy!

***********************************************************************
This poem was written by me and Divya for our Best Friend, Pratya, for her birthday!
***********************************************************************

If you are reading this because you think you are a demigod, Close this book right now.  Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth, and try to lead a normal life.
Once upon a time, a lady came to a school with the
WORST FOOD EVER!
She met two others, who hated her, but soon began to grow fond,
She never thought it would ever happen, a spark,
An eternal bond.
If they had seen it earlier, a year of war would’ve never been,
But now the time is lost and will never come back,
We are sorry, from deep within.
But now you are here, after 6 years,
Standing in front of us,
You’ve been a shoulder, a blanket, a diary,
And now we’re here for you.
We stand there blank, staring into your eyes,
Not knowing what to do,
Do we run, cry, laugh or be angry?
Nobody knows, but we don’t care.
You’ve left us here, stranded, for a year,
And now you’re coming back?
RONALD WEASLEY YOU COME BACK AFTER WEEKS! AND YOU SAY HEY?
If only you could see,
The regret in our eyes,
Knowing that we had let,
A precious year go by.
Do you even care about us?
Do you?
Do you ever feel, like a plastic bag?
Drifting through the wind?
Wanting to start again?

Now all regrets are pushed aside,
We can see the sparkle in your eyes!
I know that we were meant to break but
I DON’T MI-IND

The spark that we had feared was gone,
The spark that we had feared was taken into someone else’s fire,
The spark that we were sure would never come home,
Is now a Raging Fire.
You’ve come home from a long exile,
You’ve gone across both land and sea,
You’re coming home,
You’re coming home,
Tell the world that,
You’re coming home.
LET THE RAAIN WAASH AWAY
ALL THE PAAINS OF YESTERDAY

But anyways, now that we’re here,
Nice to meet you, where you been?
I could show you incredible things
So listen, you may not care,
You may not want to be here,
But we just want to say,
HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY!!!!
(I would have to admit that Divya did 60% and I did 40%)

One Last Chance

***********************************************************
"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, Drifting through the wind, Wanting to start again?" Adolescent problems, Picky parents, A lot of teens had to go through this!
***********************************************************
Chances are about us,
How we perceive it,
What we make it,
And what it makes us.

Chances rely on trust,
Trust breaks, chances fly,
Fly so far that,
SORRY makes sense no more!

People say life is all about chances,
They say chances make us who we are,
I am really afraid, if we give chances so much authority,
Won’t it over power us?

Every creature gets one chance,
One chance to prove themselves,
To show the world what they are made of,
To reveal their true self.

Some do it,
Some don’t,
The ones who do it are revered,
The ones who don’t………

They are the ones who root for justice,
The ones who now truly know themselves,
The ones whose sorry is worthless to us,
The ones who want one last chance.

Mom and dad trust me,
I know I have lied a lot,
For once I know what’s truly wrong,
Don’t abandon me here to rot.

Don’t tell me that I don’t exist,
That I am loved no more,
Don’t tell me I am worthless,
Don’t make my kindness sore.

Don’t tell me I am a bully,
That I don’t have a bright future anymore,
Just give me One. Last. Chance.
Just ONE.

Don’t cut me off already,
I am not worth all of that,
Don’t tell me I am weak,
I am a lot more than that,

Don’t tell me I am useless,
That I have no life to live,
I am telling you, Just one last chance,
And you will see the change in me.

Is it that hard to forgive?
To accept a mere sorry?
Does it not hurt you,
When you yell at me?

Do you never tear
When I cry?
Does it make a difference
If I live or I die?

If I chose to live
Will you love me like before?
Will you hug me like a teddy bear?
Will you hate me no more?

I am SORRY for all the trouble,
That came along with this heartfelt forgiveness,
I am obliged that you have accepted for the last time,
This Humble apology from me.

I love you mom and dad,
I always did,
No matter how you treated me,
My heart always ached for you.

I know you were not wrong
But did you ever
Ever look at life through my eyes
Felt how my heart ached?

No matter what you did
Or how you looked at me
I will always love you for who you are
For that one last chance

That one last chance made me choose life
Over something that takes away what you gave
You gave me life
You gave me my One Last Chance.

Happy Birthday Div!

****************************************************************
This is a poem that I wrote for my best friend Divya’s Birthday! I am happy that she liked it! She also has a blog! Check it out at: www.divyarwrites.blogspot.com
*********************************************************************
Hey how ya’ doin’ today,
The sun is shining high and clear,
The birds are chirping tweeting sounds,
Three colors fly proud up in the air.

I yawn as usual in the morning,
Least bothered about what day it is,
I open my eyes and see no one has woken and,
Go back to slumber again.

My mom says, “Wake up!
Rise and shine morning has come!”
I say, “Mom it’s a Saturday,
Show some love!”

My brother comes barging in,
“Do you know what day it is??”
I open my eyes and for once
“I know! its Divya’s birthday!”

“No you idiot it’s that day,
The day our flag was flung,
The day those wicked Brits gave up,
Independence day has begun!”

I don’t care about independence,
I wasn’t there to see it anyway!
What I am bothered about right now is,
“It is her birthday… what should I say?”

Something in me pricks,
My butt to run to the washroom,
I pick it up and make my way,
Brush my teeth and start today.

Drink my milk, wish happy Independence Day,
Mom gives me a choice of studying or to go down to play but
I make my bed and help at home,
Cuz’ “Ferb I know what we are gonna do today!”

You are made of kindness;
love from a heart of gold,
your touch is angelic,
from the depths of your soul.

You make a real difference,
with mere mortals flawed and blue,
asking age-old questions,
oh c’mon what else can I do?

It’s too early to get to the point
And since it is today
I guess it is time to say stuff
That I had been holding in within me

I'm not sure when it happened,
but I’m very glad it did,
you just came into my life,
and eased the pain I hid.

The more you got to know me,
the greater I knew myself,
for that I’ve been enriched,
by much more than mere wealth.

You and I are different,
yet the same in many ways,
we both have tender hearts,
that beat in tune every day.

I'll always be there for you,
forever and to the end.
We're each other's backbone,
the very best of friends.

You are more than special;
you are the "me" I aspire to,
my anchor in a sea of change,
my wings under skies of blue.

At last my life is full,
just because you're in it,
filling me with waves of love,
absolute and infinite.

Once we lived perpendicular lives,
with parallel hopes and dreams,
crossing your path was a blessing,
now my path is as it should be.

Frenemy or whatever,
I know ur trying to play it cool,
Trust me I know ya’,
After all I am not such a fool!

I can’t imagine a life without,
Breathless moments with you at my side,
For all that I knew,
I grew up on you.

So hey sis’,
How’s life?
R u throwin’ a party?
Or u just bored of it?

It feels great you know,
Now that I have let all of that out of me,
I feel lighter than before,
I am now a brighter me.

I had so many things planned for you,
But I know I can’t establish them all,
But the best I could do,
Was write you this song!

Percy says, "Riptide!"
Leo says, "Hey"
Annabeth says, "It is your birthday!"
I say, "Hurray!"

Harry says, “Expecto Patronum”
Ron says, “Chess”
Hedwig *flaps around the house*
Hermione-“Hedwig don’t make a mess”

Last but not the least,
I wouldn’t be that cheap ya’ know,
I won’t wish you a happy birthday,
But I will a fabulous one!

MY BLOG!!!

Hi,
Thanks for visiting my blog! It means a lot to me.

My name is Ritu and I created this blog so I can post what I write and through what you comment, I can learn and improve.

Writing has been my passion for as long as I can remember and it has always been the best way to express myself.
I am not a regular writer. I write when a certain phenomenon compels me to write. That could be an incident, a series of beautiful phrases that start swimming in my mind or my immediate surrounding which makes me overwhelmed.

I love writing because through what I write, I can let out all that debris in my mind without needing to tell anyone in person. I’ve realized that one needs a lot of inspiration to write a flawless piece and after they have put their thoughts into words, they are always proud of it. Written pieces come from the soul and not from the mind.

Welcome to Quills on Parchments, my blog, where I write poems, short stories and descriptive essays. I love reading comments so make sure to leave a comment or suggestion in the comment section below every composition. Feel free to tell me anything because I am not a person who would take downbeat comments as a slur, it would simply be one more rung on the ladder to a great composition! You can also comment Themes that you would like me to write on.

Thank you and stay tuned!
